Bournemouth Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy: the study and application of anatomy and physiology to encourage normal function of muscles and joints.

You need physiotherapy when you want:
  • an explanation of your problem
  • an understanding of the cause of the problem
  • a diagnosis
  • hands on treatment
  • advice on speeding up recovery
  • advice on preventing recurrence

What happens during my physiotherapy consultation?

During your first assessment at Bournemouth Physio your physiotherapist will want to obtain a detailed account of your problem. This will involve a history of any past episodes you may have had and relevant facts about your general health.

A physical assessment will then be carried out to determine an accurate clinical diagnosis of your condition. From the diagnosis the physiotherapist at Bournemouth Physio will be able to determine the best combination of treatment modalities to use.

A treatment plan will be discussed with you, including an estimate of the length of treatment required and the expected outcome. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your condition and will be advised about its management and prevention of recurrence in the future.

Your initial consultation will usually last 45 – 60 minutes with subsequent treatment sessions will vary depending on the treatment required.
