Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are among the most talked about skin care regimen of today. In a society where youthful beauty and young-looking skin is revered, people cannot be blamed if they continuously seek ways on how to keep looking vibrant and young. The technology of dermal fillers involves the use of natural-occurring collagen which helps tighten sagging skin and raise areas with skin injuries. Dermal filler treatment is also practical, easy, and reasonably-priced, which are the likely reasons why many people regularly go to their cosmetic surgeon for this procedure.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers, or cosmetic dermal fillers as they are technically called, are gels that are injected into the dermis of the skin to tighten sagging areas or eradicate unappealing skin injuries. The gel may be collagen or hyaluronic acid-based. Dermal fillers have become very popular in the last few years because the treatment is cheaper and less painful compared to other skin alteration procedures such as tucks, facelifts, and reconstructive skin surgery.

Fillers used on the skin seem to have overtaken the achievements of silicone transplants for skin tightening and reconstruction, as dermal filler treatment does not require making an incision which could scar. By simply injecting the gel into the dermis of the area, the treatment is virtually painless and recovery time is minimal.

Where are Dermal Fillers used?

Dermal fillers are used to help people deal with skin conditions like sagging and depression caused by skin injury (e.g. burns, acne breakout). There are specific dermal fillers which have particular use for certain body parts. There are special fillers for the forehead, nose area, under the eyes, cheeks, lips, and jaw line. People commonly seek dermal filler treatment to keep looking young, although the treatment can also be used for dermal reconstruction.

How much do Dermal Fillers Cost?

The cost of using fillers should be calculated per vial and per treatment. A vial of dermal filler gel costs about £300-450 each, depending on filler's brand and size of the vial. However, this is not the only cost that you will incur when considering dermal filler treatment. You also have to take note of the professional fees and other expenses that may accompany the treatment. Some dermal filler treatments are accompanied by Botox treatments, so that would add to the cost. To get an accurate estimate of the total amount you would spend on a regimen, go to your cosmetic surgeon and let him/her assess what you want done so he/she can give you an accurate estimate.

What are the Side-effects of Dermal Fillers?

There are a few recorded cases of people who have a rare allergy to collagen from cows, so check with your doctor and conduct a small skin patch test before undergoing the procedure. Some treatments may also cause the area to look bruised for one to three days. This is usually caused by affected blood vessels. Aside from those, there are no major side effects that may be caused by cosmetic skin fillers.
